In 1974, Tony McDowell planted the seed for what has grown to become McDowell Lumber today. Our company’s humble beginnings were sown from a single portable saw and a lumberjack’s eye, as Tony scouted the woods of North Carolina for timber fit to become railroad ties. A few years later, McDowell Lumber branched out from the railroad industry into other markets, supplying raw timber resources that had been crafted into a vast array of grades for a variety of uses.

We are dedicated to quality, and work with mostly poplar and red and white oak - hardwoods that can stand the test of time. McDowell Lumber products are used by furniture and flooring manufacturers, distribution yards, and the kiln dried industry. Our hardwoods are processed in preparation to be used for furniture, door frames, cabinetry, flooring, and pallets. Softwoods are sold to other saw mills for specialized processing.

We value the environment in which we live, work, and play, so we are proud to say that all of our resources are exhausted without waste. Bark becomes mulch, chip mills make use of our smaller wood pieces, and sawdust is even sold. Our resources are further protected by the reforestation of timbered tracts, and our commitment to comply with environment law remains steadfast and strong.

For more than 30 years, our long standing saw mill has been serving customers from North Carolina and various states along the east coast to Italy and Spain abroad. No matter how far, our team looks forward to bringing high quality lumber from our forests to you.
